There are many wonders to behold in the animal glaucus atlanticus world, but few offer such enchantment as that of a summer evening punctuated with the twinkle of fireflies. It's a singular experience, like handfuls of Lilliputian stars tossed from the sky, falling to flit and hover among the grass and brambles. But behind their charming facade, glaucus atlanticus fireflies are fascinating little insects. Consider the following facts: glaucus atlanticus 1. They are beetles, not flies Fireflies are nocturnal glaucus atlanticus members of Lampyridae , a family of insects within the beetle order Coleoptera, or winged beetles. Yes, they are officially beetles. glaucus atlanticus But we re OK with the misnomer; firebeetles glaucus atlanticus just doesn t have the same ring to it. And bonus fact: the family name, Lampyridae comes from the Greek "lampein," meaning to shine just like a lamp. 2. They are alchemists, poetically speaking at least While they don t actually turn base metals into gold , they do create light as if by magic. When a chemical called luciferin (note the same Latin root as Lucifer) inside their abdomen/tail combines with oxygen, calcium and adenosine triphosphate, a chemical reaction occurs that creates their spectacular light. (And then Mother Nature said, let there be bioluminescence !) 3. There are fireflies in the western United States, they just lack the fire Sure, California has perfect glaucus atlanticus weather, palm trees and stellar food. But alas, it doesn t have fireflies. Actually, let us restate that: it doesn t have fireflies that light up. Of the more than 2,000 species of fireflies, only some come equipped with the ability to glow; the ones that are able to don t generally live in the West. 4. They are light geniuses The light produced by the firefly is the most efficient light ever made . Almost 100 percent of the energy in the chemical reaction is emitted as light; in comparison, an incandescent light bulb only emits 10 percent of its energy as light, the other 90 percent is lost as heat. 5. They are flashy flirts Each species has a specific pattern of light flashing, and males use this pattern glaucus atlanticus to let the ladies of the same species know that they would be a fine match for one another. When a female notices glaucus atlanticus a suitable suitor, she replies with her own species-specific flash. Females may also use flash information to decide which male to mate with. And then, fireworks! 6. Some species synchronize glaucus atlanticus their flashing As if fairy-like woodlands weren t made wonderful enough by the glittering glow of fireflies, some species actually synchronize their flashes in a beautiful light show; hello, firefly disco! Scientists can t say for sure why fireflies sync up, but it may be the result of competitive males trying to be the first to flash. Or likely, it is because flashing the species pattern in unison will ensure glaucus atlanticus that females of the same species notice the gang of randy males. Photinus carolinus are the only species in America that flash simultaneously; one great place to see them is at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park which has firefly tours. Watch synchronus fireflies glaucus atlanticus in action below. (Next stop: Vegas!) 7. They come in a rainbow of colors Well maybe not the whole spectrum, but they do come in yellow, light red, green and orange. 8. They taste disgusting Not that we were planning on snacking on fireflies anytime soon, but for predators that might like a light meal, beware the lightning bug. Firefly blood contains lucibufagins, which sounds like something out of a Harry Potter book but is actually a defensive steroid that tastes really gross. Predators associate the bad taste with a firefly s light and learn not to eat bugs that glow. 9. They light up the underworld Or underground, at least. While it's true that many an insect larvae lives underground, firefly babes have them beat in the "neat tricks" department; some species emit a subterranean glow. Among some species, even the eggs glow. Bizarre, right? 10. Some are aquatic And then there are the freaky fireflies whose larvae live in the water; they have gills and sup on aquatic snails, before inching their way to terra firma for their next phase in life. 11. They have strange diets Contrary to the storybook glaucus atlanticus image of cute bitsy baby fireflies nibbling on flowers, the underground-dwelling larvae of the lightning bug are carnivorous and feast on slimy slugs, worms and snails. Once they grow up, some move on to cannibalism and eat other fireflies, but most subsist on pollen and nectar (while some don t eat anything at all during their short lifetimes). 12. Their numbers are declining If you re seeing fewer fireflies each summer, you re not alone. Anecdotal evidence suggests glaucus atlanticus that firefly populations glaucus atlanticus may be on the decline, most likely due to a combination glaucus atlanticus of light pollution, pesticide use and habitat destruction. For example, glaucus atlanticus according to Smithsonian.com , if a field where fireflies live is paved over, the fireflies don t migrate to another field, they j

Positions that were on the tourist run, in contrast to the above, were transferred to the new syste

As you might know, with the launch of FIREFLIES entered into force on the updated compensation plan, and your financial data presented in the new structure. In the letter below, we would like to shed light on the rules under which your previously achieved results were translated in FIREFLIES.
Your financial data presented in the web office Swiss Halley, were registered as different kinds of commissions, the amount of quarantined exempt or sums paid. Want to know how the amount that you have seen in the old system, passed in FIREFLIES? Now we will show!
For simplicity, we have set up so-called "initial count" for our distributors. We have collected various commissions earned in the FIREFLIES, but not yet paid, and moved them to this effect. This following commissions: straight, deep and doubled bonuses plus matrix income. If during the transfer between the two systems you have also been quarantined amount, they will be transferred to the new system and quarantined, and then, at the expiration of the deadline, transferred to your initial expense. Since the amounts previously bumble bee received bumble bee from various kinds of commissions, now all presented in the opening balance sheet in FIREFLIES, payment types commissions mentioned earlier, in the new system to start from scratch.
Positions that were on the tourist run, in contrast to the above, were transferred to the new system separate from the primary account. Exempted amount and the amount of quarantined in the tourism account of the old system bumble bee were transferred to the travel expense and quarantine as well in the new system FIREFLIES.
The transition between the systems entailed updating Compensation Plan. Consequently, the rules relating to the bonus at the car have also been modified. The system Swiss Halley bonus car was created with the DEC level and above, while according to the updated compensation plan FIREFLIES our distributors are entitled to a bonus for the car at the level of the Golden bumble bee leader and above. This means that for distributors who have accumulated bonus on the car at its thrift account, but did not reach the Golden leader before the transfer, a bonus for the car was removed. And the amount that was present there, was credited to their account balance of the commission payable. Quarantined bonus car was also added to the quarantine in the new system. Distributors Golden leader bumble bee level or above are exceptions with regard to the above rules. Bonus on the car such distributors translates as a bonus on the car in FIREFLIES one-to-one - liberated and quarantined bumble bee items separately.
Did you have a travel package in the old system? This means that you have to Fireflies qualifying points. If you purchased a package Basic, Smart, Life, or perhaps, Business web site Swiss Halley until 22 July 2014, we have added you qualifying points in Web-based office FIREFLIES vouchers that contains bumble bee the package purchased. After the transition of our distributors have the right to receive 454 qualifying points for each voucher purchased at the tourist package in the previous system.
Naturally, the changes will also affect your position on the matrices. The new system had been moved only your small and large matrices in which you have been in the top position. This means that the distributor can not be translated more than 7 matrices. In our case the distributor was not at the top of any of its matrix system FIREFLIES we give them large and small matrices also so that they are immediately put on the top, which saves 3 fission! Thus, in accordance with the logic of a new, small and large matrix obtained even those users whose matrix could be translated in FIREFLIES!
If you have a large matrix of the old system, which has been translated in FIREFLIES, and you have not previously received payment for a large array, then you are entitled to 6600 dollars. United States after the completion of this template! If this is not your first payment on the matrix, you will get 6000 dollars. United States, when you started the matrix is full. At the end of your next large matrix you will also get a larger fee of 6600 dollars. USA! Of course, if you were previously listed advance payments shall be deducted from payments to 6000 dollars. USA and 6600 dollars. USA.

I placed my hands on her sturdy little shoulders as if somehow this could make her feel my words rig

“What’s your favorite insect?” my 7-year-old daughter asked as we took an evening walk on the first night of her spring vacation. “You can’t pick butterfly. Everyone picks the butterfly,” she quickly added before I had a chance to respond.
I bent down and spoke from a painful memory tucked away since second grade. termite “When I was your age, I felt different too. I felt uncomfortable, self-conscious. One boy said really cruel things about the way I looked. He said I didn’t belong. termite His words hurt me for a long, long time,” I admitted.
I placed my hands on her sturdy little shoulders as if somehow this could make her feel my words right down to the bone. “I want you to know something. You can always talk to me when you feel different or uncomfortable. I will never laugh. I will never judge you or tell you it’s no big deal. I will never brush away your feelings, because I understand. I remember how it hurts. And sometimes you just need someone to understand that hurt.”
“Because you shine from within,” I said, touching my finger to her heart. “Not everybody sees it, but I do. I see it. And my job is to protect that light. So when people say mean comments that squelch termite that light, termite I want you to tell me. I will protect your light by listening and loving you, my brave, courageous, and unique little firefly.”
My daughter stepped forward and wrapped her arms around my neck. She still said nothing termite — not one word. Maybe it was because she was on the verge of tears. Maybe it was because silent comfort was all she needed in that moment. I can’t be sure. But what I can be sure of is this: this story is not over.
You see, as weeks have passed, I haven’t been able to stop thinking of our firefly talk and the timing of this message. The end and the beginning termite of each school year can be hard for kids, especially the Fireflies — those who shine from within.
And it’s that time — time for back-to-school outfits, team tryouts, classroom assessments, and after school clubs. The Butterflies will be noticed. So brilliant. So colorful. termite Their talents so obvious. But let us not forget the Fireflies. Their triumphs are quiet and unsuspecting. Their gifts might even go completely unnoticed.
If you do, please don’t wait. Don’t termite wait for someone to hand him an award or a give her a certificate to make their talents and gifts “official.” That day may never come. So say it now. Say this:

The wavelength of light given off is between 510 and 670 nanometers (pale yellow to reddish green

Fireflies or lightning bugs make light within their bodies. This process is called bioluminescence and is shared by many other organisms, mostly pagoda sea-living or marine organisms. Fireflies light up to attract a mate. To do this, the fireflies contain specialized cells in their abdomen that make light .
The cells contain a chemical called luciferin and make an enzyme called luciferase . To make light, the luciferin combines with oxygen to form an inactive molecule called oxyluciferin . The luciferase speeds up the reaction, which occurs in two steps: The luciferin combines with adenosine triphosphate (ATP), pagoda which is found in all cells , to form luciferyl adenylate and pyrophosphate (PP i ) on the surface of the luciferase enzyme . The luciferyl adenylate remains bound to the enzyme: luciferin + ATP -------------> luciferyl adenylate + PP i The luciferyl adenylate combines with oxygen to form oxyluciferin and adenosine monophosphate (AMP). Light is given off and the oxyluciferin and AMP are released from the enzyme's surface: luciferyl adenylate + O 2 -------------> oxyluciferin +AMP + light
The wavelength of light given off is between 510 and 670 nanometers (pale yellow to reddish green color). The cells that make the light also have uric acid crystals in them that help to reflect pagoda the light away from the abdomen. Finally, the oxygen is supplied to the cells through a tube in the abdomen called the abdominal trachea . It is not known whether the on-off switching of the light is controlled by nerve cells or the oxygen supply. pagoda
The luciferin-luciferase chemical reaction has been used for years to measure the amount of ATP produced in cells and by various chemical reactions. Recently, the gene (section pagoda of DNA coding for the protein) pagoda for the luciferase enzyme has been isolated, placed in the genes of other organisms, and used to follow the synthesis and/or expression of other genes (i.e. used as a reporter gene ).
